Where the figures come from

• Wikidata, under CC0 1.0. Retrieved 2026-09-13, Hand-curated, then verified by query. Candidates came from two sweeps of the Wikidata query service: every entity with at least 90 Wikimedia sitelinks carrying exactly one best-ranked inception date at full day precision, and a named shortlist of household brands, toys, games and programmes resolved through the English Wikipedia page-props API. Selection is manual and editorial — the mechanic only works when both items are famous to the same person, so the bar is a UK household with a child in it rather than a sitelink count. Every surviving value was then re-fetched by item and rejected unless the property carried exactly one best-ranked statement at day precision, which is what stops a year-precision date shipping as a fabricated 1 January. Items were also dropped where the one stored date is not the date the thing is normally said to have started..

  Dates are inception (P571) for companies, institutions, characters and products, and publication date (P577) for games, films and books. Both are taken from the best-ranked statement at full day precision; an item stated only to a year or a month is excluded rather than rounded, because a year-precision Wikidata date renders as 1 January and would ship a day nobody claimed. The 65 items are chosen by hand for recognisability, not returned by a query, so the selection carries an editor and the values do not.
